Přiznávám, že když jsme se blížili k Dahabu, nedovedl jsem si dost dobře představit, co se komu může líbit na téhle příšerné díře, plné nepředstavitelného nepořádku, prachu, pobíhajících zvířat a lidí.    Během manévrování v úzkých uličkách městečka jsme tu a tam lehce zavadili o nějaky ten dum, o nějakou tu střechu, ale nikdo si z toho nic nedělal, proč taky. Neprší tu zřejmě, jak je rok dlouhy a kdo by se s tím spravoval.    Postupem času jsem si Dahab doslova zamiloval. Je to zvláštní, ale schází mi.

Dahab is located in South Sinai about 100Km north of Sharm El Sheikh, looking on the west coast of Gulf of Aquaba.  Translated, Dahab literally means gold and the village beach resort 85 km north of Sharm El Sheikh is a pot of gold waiting to be discovered by both the tourist and diver alike.  Located on the Gulf of Aquaba in the South Sinai, Dahab was originally visited only by nomadic Bedouin who came for the fresh wind and abundant supply of fish. Travellers and backpackers gradually discovered the place, and a few camps and beach-side restaurants grew up.

Stádo koz pasoucích se na zápraží mešity nás už rozhodně nepřekvapilo. Tady v Dahabu je velkoměstskému životu navyklý člověk každou chvíli konfrontován s naprosto "neobvyklými" obrazy a výjevy. Kdo tam nebyl, ten neuvěří.    Ale hlavně, že je tady pohoda. Všechno má svůj čas. Slova jako: "Tommorrow my friend, tommorrow" jsou tu stejně častá, jako pozdravy. A tak jsem ty pohledy poslal až z Prahy. Známky totiž budou až zítra. To mělo tu výhodu, že alespoň došly, i když srovnání té naší pošta a jejich by pro tento africký stát nemuselo dopadnou zrovna špatně :-)    Počítejte s tím, že i během velmi krátké doby získáte velmi mnoho "přátel". A těmi uvozovkami nemyslím nic špatného. Je tu zkrátka taková přátelská atmosféra.    Jó, zapomněl jsem říci, že se tu zdraví velmi často. :-)

Dahab has recently benefited from an expanded tourist infrastructure. It’s now able to offer all the comforts and facilities most tourists expect, while still managing to retain its peaceful, laid back atmosphere.    If you want to dry out for a few days there’s plenty of activities above the water to keep you amused. Camel drivers congregate along the waterfront in Dahab to organise trips into the Sinai. It’s also possible to hire horses. Custom designed jeep treks are another option. A popular destination is the Coloured Canyon, where layers of bright, multicoloured sand can be found on the steep, narrow walls. The Canyon is sheltered from the wind creating an eerie silence.    Dahab is easily accessible from most major cities in Egypt. There are regular bus services that arrive at the main bus station in Dahab city. The closest airport to Dahab is 85 km south, in Sharm El Sheikh. Dahab is also easily accessible from Israel. The beach resort is 140 km south of the Taba boarder.
